On to Mars

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/04/nasa-likely-to-scrap-plans-to-build-moon-base.html

This makes sense to me. Save the money on building the infrastructure of a Moon base and use it to accelerate the replacement of the shuttle with Orion. Instead of the Moon, fly Orion to a near Earth asteroid (NEO) first. NEO's are much more dangerous than global warming and we need to know more about them.

When the Chinese land on the Moon for a flags and footprint photo-op, the cry will go out saying we already went to the Moon, we need to get to Mars to show them up!

Not as good as naming the toilet for him...

But still a good compromise.

Still disappointed that they didn't name the node Serenity.

Note to NASA: If you run a contest with 4 approved names and one of them gets the most votes by far, then pick that one. Sheesh!
