Cool Pictures From Mars & PR Stunt


They released a very high resolution color panorama today. It is a stunning shot that shows the geological strata perfectly. Here is one part of it:

They had a dumb PR stunt in the conference today where they transmitted a short speech by Charles Bolden (director of NASA) to the rover and then transmitted it back. So the rover was acting as a relay station.

Bolden pronounced "I'm speaking from the surface of Mars" or something like that.

Big deal.

The JPL guy who took a question about it said it was 4 gigabits and didn't interfere with the downloading of "real" data.
