Interesting, but unlikely. I'm still predicting a space race between the U.S. and China to return to the Moon. China is not going to give up on going to the Moon by itself with humans and the U.S. President and Congress won't be able to stand the heat.
Of course it could lead to this attitude by the U.S.: "Hey, we already went to the Moon, we are going to go to Mars to one up the Chinese". That would be okay too.
